Frame of Mind
Often times when I see a picture I love I will say “WOW. that is beautiful.” If I am around my fiancé, he always asks me, “Why? Tell me what you like about it.” I then tell him every little thing that I love about it from the lighting to the pose to the coloring of the picture. My role, as a photographer is to tell a story with my pictures. I love stumbling across other photographer’s work and seeing the story they are writing.
I have started a series on Instagram called “Frame of Mind Friday.” Each Friday I will essentially “dissect” a picture. I share how I feel when I look at the picture and every little detail that I love about it. I describe the picture from a photographers point of view. If you would like to submit a picture for me to dissect, please fill out the form to the right!

I took the above picture of one of my brides right before she put her dress on. Let’s dissect it together! The first thing I notice is the lighting. It is a soft lighting that really brightens in the mirror. It resembles the way the bride is feeling. She may feel nervousness of preparing to walk down the isle. She may feel giddy as she gets to marry the man fo her dreams. The light is intentional, but all over the place. The next thing I notice is how she is looking at herself in the mirror. I wonder what she sees. Does she see a little girl who was just running around playing with her sister in their parent’s house? Does she see a woman who is ready to take care of her family? Does she see everything leading up to this very moment? Almost a time lapse of her whole life. The next thing I notice is how she is not busy. She’s not putting blush on or fixing that one stray hair. She is still. She is taking a moment to stop and embrace the day. It’s happening. She is getting married.
